A discussion on the question papers of English for all the classes

Discussions are going on in all those subject blogs...

Why not we too have a discussion on the question papers of English for all the classes. You are welcome to comment about the questions.

Let me start with a complaint. For the past few years we English teachers were asked not to teach grammar at school. I remember my R.P. saying not to use the words grammar, tense etc. in the class.  I have taught in classes 5 to 12 and very well am aware of what is taught as far as grammar is concerned, especially in the U.P. and H.S. But look at the Std.10 question paper. From 2012 March S.S.L.C. onwards they have started asking about sentence patterns. It is true that it is there dealt with in the chapters but is that enough for a student who has got nothing much in the lower classes ? What actually has he acquired as far as grammar is concerned ? Let there be a heated discussion. I feel that this is injustice. What do you think ?

I totally agree with u Sir.How can a student who is not taught any grammar at all in the lower classes know about subject, verb, adjective, adverbs, preposition let alone sentence structure?First they should teach them basic grammar in the lower classes and only then should questions like sentence patterns be dealt with in std x.Right now they are expecting the std x teacher to teach them every thing to help the students to prepare for the sslc exam.

Sir,
In the Std X English question paper, a few questions for answering based on the textual passage as well as the poems are found difficult for students to deal with. Some are confusing even among the English teachers. Can I expect the answers of those questions in this section? For example one question is quoted here
What does "now" suggest in the poem The Himalayas"?
